Amputation

October 16, 2016

No-one could find Mai, an independent Khmer dog after he disappeared on a walk with www.cambodiawildlifesanctuary.org rangers. He made his way home tired and hungry from the jungle, dragging the wire snare that had irreversibly injured the blood supply to his foot. Only his foot was damaged, but I amputated his entire leg from his hip joint so there would be no

chance of remaining bone rubbing on the muscle and causing pain in the future, or that he'd try to use the remaining stump, causing pain and injury. Despite it being a huge operation, Mai was up on his feet the next day! He is as independent as before, with a growing affection and trust for people.
